I just mounted my radar detector on rear view mirror. Very easy and straight forward if anyone is interested in doing this.

Parts I used:
Escort Passport 8500 x50 Radar Detector
MirrorMountTM Radar Detector Mirror Mount - Amazon.com: MirrorMountTM Radar Detector Mirror Mount - Escort 9500ix, 8500x50, Solo S3, Redline: Car Electronics
eBay Direct Cord - Escort Radar 9500IX 8500 X50 7500 Redline Passport IQ Stealth Mirror Direct Cord 737795075004 | eBay

Steps:
1. Slide down mirror wire harness cover.
2. Unplug mirror wire harness
3. Plug in direct cord into harness slot.
Direct cord black wire goes into mirror harness black wire. and direct cord red wire goes into mirror harness orange wire. See below schematics for a reference.
4. Put harness cover back and install mirror mount

Looks really nice. I usually had radar detectors in all my cars, but just drive different now that I am older and have a kid, but did try to run the cord in the fe; this looks much better.

I got the mirror harness out. How do you
Release the black and orange wire from the harness?
How were you able to get the black original
And black direct wire back into that little opening?
It seems rather small for 2 wires to go into it.

Thanks in advance.

I just squeezed the side and wiggle it downwards. Also--figure out the wiring finally. You don't need to pull any wires out--just wiggle the wires into the holes that are occupied already.

Thank you.

Looking at the wiring diagram (and the picture) the red wire goes to Pin 1 (Key power) to join the existing orange wire.

Pin 8 (GND) would seem to be where the black wire needs to go to join the existing white wire, is that correct? Its not too clear in the picture.

Thanks again. Its nice to benefit from others experiences.

Here's the link to the original poster--this should help a bit:

Yup, its not mentioned where the black wire connects and its not clear from the pictures whether the black pin is connected to pin 3 (key out) or pin 8 (gnd).

I'd hate to get it wrong & short something important.

Ah, I just re-read the original post and it mentions the black wire goes to the mirror harness black wire. This appears to be Pin 3 (key out).

Thank you. Kudos to the OP to an excellent post

Great!! Just slide it in gently--for some reason I kept on thinking that I had to remove a wire first..you don't...
