Hi,
While removing snow from my driveway this am I let the santa fe warm up (03 3.5). I noticed visable exhaust coming out of pipe after the cat? going to this (see pic). What is "this". Is it part of the cat?

I don't think that the picture posted is the cat. Catalytic converters are usually round or oval shaped. They are also the first "box" in an exhaust system from the engine. They are also positioned close the engine either straight after the manifold or straight after the downpipes to aid fast warm up of the cat.

If you are talking about the approximate 9 inch section of pipe between the catalytic and resonator I replaced that piece of pipe and welded it on but I had to drop the whole exhaust to do the job. Somewhere on this board I have pictures posted when I did this.
