So, I traded in my 2013 Sonata Limited for a 2019 Sonata Turbo which of course has paddle shifters. I had an earlier version of the Sonata SE for a few years which also had paddle shifters, but my location didn't really lend itself to the use of shifters so I never used them.

The location of the shifters on the Turbo has led to me accidentally engaging them when I didn't want to. How do I get back to Drive when that happens without having to stop the car? Thanks.

Well, in my 2011 Sonata, if you just let it be, it will automatically go back to "D" on the dash instead of showing you the gear. Not sure if the 2019 model works in the same way. Have you tried to see what happens once you use the shifters and don't do anything after that?

Shove shifter to manual mode and back.. takes split second to do,, otherwise 15 second I think and display will change back tp "D"

+1 on what SBR said. In general dont worry about it, if you accidentally tapped the Paddle and it shifts up or down a gear it will go back to "Auto" and "D" by itself shortly.

if you have the shifter in in manual mode (pulled to the right) it will also shift automatically without touching the paddles but it will hold the gears much longer and not as smooth as when in automatic "D"

Also your 2019 has the 8 sp transmission and is an "LF" model, for most information you may get more directly related responses in the "LF" sub forum.
