Probably a dumb question I'm sure but forgive me. I'm new to car modifications so I don't know exactly how everything works.

My question is about exhaust. Where is most of the sound from these cat back systems coming from? Is it mostly from the muffler? headers?

I am looking at getting the axle back system from Hyundai. If I was to get that would there be much of a diff in sound if I got the mid pipe to complete the system.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're thinking of it in reverse....

The sound comes from the combustion of the engine. How you tweak that sound depends on what stands in the way of the sound waves traveling through the exhaust.

Also, as an aside, a catback system wouldn't include headers as they are in front of the cat

Simply changing your muffler will definitely change the sound. The kind of material inside the muffler and the material of the muffler itself, the shape, density of the muffler, etc etc will all impact the sound of your exhaust.

Simply changing your muffler will not however result in any increased performance (a phrase that probably shouldn't be used for this car in the first place LOL)... a slightly larger midpipe and muffler will release some of the pressure issues in this car when going past 4000 RPM. Don't go larger than 2.25" on this car.

Thanks for the help. I will be going with just a cat back system with 2.25in pipes like recommended. When I get the money that is. Was all set to get it done in a few days but as per usual something always comes up and I have to wait again.
