Hi, I'm having problems with the sound system of my car. I just got the car and discovered that both speakers from the back seat don't work. I further examined and noticed that a speaker from the dashboard and another one from the front door aren't working either. I'm driving a 1995 Sonata. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you think the problem is with the speakers or it could be the head unit? My father used to drive the car before, and he didn't push the sound system too hard at all.
Thanks for your help. Hey! if anyone could get me a wiring diagram, that could be useful too.

I have a 2002 Sonata V6, I've had the basic stereo (cdplayer/amfm radio ) replaced two times, first it was because of a booming noise coming from the rear speakers, they replaced something called a floater control, a month later the cd player wouldn't work,

now the stereo needs to be looked at again because since I got it back only 10-15% of the sound comes through the front speakers 90% of the time. Luckily it is still within the 3 years coverage period , but I'm afraid in a month or so something ELSE may start acting up with it and then I'll replace it with a better system that has more power and better speakers.

Hi :) ,

If I may be so bold, I would suggest that you replace the whole stereo.

My 97 Lantra lost the cassette player reasonably early in life (still had radio) and the speakers gave relatively crappy sound anyway.

Replacing everything will stop you fussing about it every time you get in the car.

For peace of mind, just replace it.

Cheers,

I think your missing my point , when you buy a new car you expect certain things
such as a stereo radio-cd player that works, esp since it's under warrenty it's not a new technology.and hyundai should have gotten it down by now.

plus I just paid $470 for brake repairs with only 33,800 miles on the car so that will put a dent in disposable income for awhile

Hi :) ,

Sorry if I gave that impression.

My unit was a rebadged phillips unit. I expected it to work for a while but knew I had bought a budget vehicle and shouldn't expect champagne performance from a beer budget.

I don't know your stereo habits regards volume and bass etcetera but it sounds as if there is something wrong with the stereo wiring harness in your car.

Make friends with a stereo installer and get him to check it out.

Cheers,

-appreciate the idea, no I haven't really blasted the system because it's not all that great soundwise. I think I will have the stereo wiring checked at a outside car stereo installer because when I went back to the dealer, they said "oh no thats how they all are" yeah esp because there was only ONE month left for the stereo warrenty-3yrs vs 5 bumper to bumper, minus wear items.

Any suggestions for a replacement.,nothing super expensive just a decent system and prob speaker replacement since the dynamic range isn't all that great either.

I'm not too thrilled with this Sonata after 3 years, I have purchased two Camry's before I purchased this 02 Sonata (thinking about still being under warrenty while paying off the loan) and while it is nice to have 5 years coverage, what good is it if your at the dealer so many times esp after the first year, I think I've had to take it back for tsb's and other problems under warrenty about 20 times or more in the last two years.

Perhaps if Hyundai can establish a LONG TERM reliabilty record, and the depreciation factor SLOWS DOWN a bit , I might consider another but until then I guess all I can say is that you do get what you pay for.

Hi :) ,

Perhaps something like a Pioneer 4650 CD player or equivalent.

4 * 50 watts with mosfet amp which gives you adequate power without needing an additional amp. It also plays mp3's if thats your thing.

I bought some replacement two way speakers(4"front & 6"*9"rears) from a specialist electronics store over here called Jaycar (like a Tandy/Radio Shack but with good gear). [Jaycar source and put their name on the speakers that they feel are the best, so you may wish to let that be a guide in your search for replacements].

This meant I wasn't paying through any of my orifices for quality gear. They are rated at 80 watts max which is plenty. I'd rate them against speakers 3 times the price.

Don't be fooled by big names and numbers on speakers. A 200 watt speaker needs good power to make it work properly, otherwise it sounds crap.

I'm sorry that you've had an unpleasant experience with the dealer. I'm happy to say that the reliability of my Lantra has given me no cause to attend the dealership for any rectifications so I can't really comment. Being a little mechanically apt also helps me. I don't stand for any bullshit from "experts".

In seven years, I've had to replace my reversing light switch, clutch, water pump and radiator hoses, but given the hiding that the vehicle has received, I think thats pretty good.

Personally, I think that the Sonata is reasonably attractive, if a tad undertorqued engine wise. The engine seems to spin a lot for not much movement, but maybe thats just me. I've never been a big fan of auto boxes either.

Find a specialist store that will give you great service and you will be well pleased.

Hoping this helps.

Cheers,

Andrew B)

hi, and thanks for the info in regards to checking out an after market system.
I think I saw the Pioneer system you mentioned in the ad for a car stereo
installer near me, about the speakers, yes I have heard some really crappy BRAND NAME speakers, that were no better than the standard ones that come with the Sonata.

Perhaps when the new 06 model comes out with a more powerful
V6- 200 HP, 2220 lb torgue plus ABS/Traction Control standard, as well as SIX (2 side curtain airbads ) airbags standard I'll start liking the sedan more. I just hope
hyundai rebuilds their >long term reliabilty< as well as their inital quality awards.
The photos for the 06 is almost a 100% copy of the accord rear lights.

Other options will include heated front seats/ dvd naviagtion system and controls for the stereo etc on the steering wheel,I'd like to see a model with aluminum trim instead of that fake wood trim .

I just hope hyundai rebuilds their >long term reliabilty< as well as their inital quality awards.

The photos for the 06 are posted, hope everyone enjoys a sneak peak
