I bought a 03 Sante fe w/ the 3.5 liter about 2 years ago for just dirt cheap! It ran fine till 6 months ago. Right as the weather cooled down here in South Alabama. I started getting a really high rev for about 2 seconds when started then it'd be fine. It did that for a while, then progressed to idling at about 2k and not going faster then 20mph. I scanned the PC, said tps sensor, bought one, nope, then MAS, bought one nope. The lady at the Auto shop suggested an Air control valve.... so I buy the one for it, For the life of me can't find it! Or at least the part i ordered from rock auto! A friend works in a shop, his "lacky" looked up the manual and said it didn't have one. after it sitting for far to long i buy a o2 senser removal tool, remove it, It cranks up. So i replace the cats....seems good, cold spell comes on....NEVERMIND!
My last thought is i have the typical EVA canister issue that comes with these. Its jury rigged to say the least. The vent line is t'd and a fuel hose goes up to the fill and is plugged with a bolt. I put an fuel filter between the eva and tank to trap any charcoal coming from the canister. I verified that the fuel vapor vent solenoid held a vacuum.
At this point I'm at a lost cause. Its just a second vehicle, i don't want to keep throwing money into it, but i also don't want to keep paying insurance on it just sitting. Any thoughts would be appreciative. I promise to post a follow up with the fix!
