2003 2.7
Started and was running and the brake light and battery flickered and AR died. Now key does nothing. Tried new battery and nothing. If you put key in it chimes and does nothing else. Things that don't need a key work like hazards and horn and parking lights come on but turning the key has no effect. It's seems to not have power in the on or start position of the key. What does this point to? Ignition switch? Short somewhere?

Help, working on side of road here.
Thx

OK new development the main 120amp fuse is blown. Replaced it and it blew like a flashback. Where could this major short be?

120 is for the line from alternator to battery.. look for possibly the lug at alternator to be melted, or line burned up and short to ground.. if lug fine, suspect alternator toast internally, open hood and smell around alt area for electric been overheated/electric fire smell

OK... So if it's for all why does it kill all power to car? So if I remove wire from all als reinstall fuse should the car start with new batter?

If you disconnect the alternator wire and replace the fuse it should start and run. But the battery won't last long.

Disconnect line at alternator, and verify line is not shorted to ground.. likely short to ground going to be internal alternator.
