Whilst I love my I10 and am happy to put up with its little quirks there is one thing which really gets me down. Every Week or so I go out to wash my car I find more stone chips on it. From minor marks to quite large chips. Now I know all cars get chips on them but I dont remember any of my previous cars been as bad as the I10. I have also found a tiny bit of rust coming though on the rear hatch just by the key hole. This made me wonder if Hyundai have cut back on the quality of paint compared to some more expensive makes ?

I've had the same thing. I have been told that last winter was particularly hard on the roads and councils have cut back on road maintenance, so there are far more bits [of *expletive*] on the surface of our roads to fly up and cause damage compared to previous years, but that doesn't explain your rear hatch.

I would recommend using Autoglym Super Resin Polish (or similar) to protect the car's paintwork, mainly because I got the same advice from the Daily Telegraph's 'Honest John' a year ago when I was awaiting my i10. So far, the bodywork seems to have endured, and my i10 spends a lot of time at the coast.

I hope this helps.

Hi talkalot,
Have to agree with your comments, the paintwork does seem rather thin on the i10, mine has picked up many stonechips since last winter much to my annoyance.Spent most of last Sunday afternoon with the touch up brush, but slightly disappointed with the result due to the paint not quite being a perfect match.
Not noticed any rust on the bodywork but the alloys look bad after only twelve months of ownership.

Had the same criticism of the touch up colour. My dealer said that at least part of the difference might be the absence of the protective "hard varnish" coat that they spray on as a finishing operation.

PS forgot to say that the almost complete absence of chips on our car, which was run largely in Spain and France, suggest that UK roads may be part of the problem at the moment.

if its regularly complain by everyone so i think you should ask to your company dealer to solve this. or else how they come to know about this problem. i had also done the same with my one month old Ford 250 pickup truck
