Hello,

Been using this forum to repair and [sometimes] diagnose my 2003 2.7L Automatic, 134,XXX miles. I bought it at auction and have been doing the needed repairs by myself to save money.

I replaced the valve cover and intake gaskets, but it is still leaking oil from the location in the picture. Could this be the rear main seal?

It's not a major leak (yet) - maybe a quart every 1000+ miles. Funny thing is, it didn't appear to leak until after my most recent oil change. I switched from conventional to Mobil 1, full synthetic, high mileage. I'm thinking that doing that may have cleared out some buildup that was preventing the leak - but I'm not qualified to make that determination.

(Side note: I tried searching the forum before posting this but I couldn't find a previous post. I apologize if this has already been discussed.)

a quart a 1000 miles sounds high to me. I'm at 181k and just took a 2000 mile trip and used 2 tenths of a quart on the trip(but I've been using mobil 1 since I bought this santa fe). But I have heard of people who switch to mobil 1 after the engine has high mileage have leaks when they switch to mobil 1. If it were me, I'd switch back to conventional oil on the next oil change and see what happens. You could also go to a slightly higher grade oil.
