I always go to Goodyear to get my oil changes since I bought their tire warranty for my OEM tires they rotate my tires free of charge. For awhile they seemed to have a lower oil change price and their standard oil was synthetic blend. Now I noticed they went back to the three tier oil change option with synthetic blend at the middle price! Can I do better somewhere else and perhaps get every other oil change at Goodyear and have them do the free rotation then? I usually go 5-6K between oil changes and I go easy on the car, only 22900 after 26 months.

Buy your own oil at Wal-Mart for less, buy the Hyundai filter, and pay labor for oil change ?

5qt bottle of MOBIL-1 5/30 can be had for $23 around here, gots 3.3L, need a 6th quart.

+1, full synthetic oil and Hyundai filter for around $40.00 bucks + satisfaction of doing it yourself. Just remember, recycle your oil correctly most auto parts store takes them, at least Advance Auto Parts does.

It costs about $30 for six quarts of bona fide synthetic oil at Walmart (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum.)

I paid $5.00 the other day for a Hyundai filter.

So go figure - A dealer who isn't shortchanging you lays out at least $35 right there.

Anything less and I would be suspicious - Actually - I would be suspicious of the dealer anyway - "Synthetic Blend" sounds like they are putting in the cheapest stuff money can buy which I'm quite certain everybody does.

Bottom line - do it yourself - You save money - you know what goes inside.

The Sonata oil change isn't some gut buster as many cars are - it is actually kind of fun for the mechanically inclined.

P.S., I am also very suspicious of "three tier" anything - Went to Cottman's transmission once - they offered me a "three tier" overhaul plan. This is a no-brainer - when you do something, do you offer yourself "three tiers" or do you simply do the job right?

I request a certain oil that my quickie oil change guy doesn't have in bulk. I don't trust
those bulk dispensers, because I got seriously shorted on 2 occasions (by the dealer).

Nothing like those empty bottles to make you feel confident you got all your oil!

I recommend that you avoid the synthetic blend entirely and select either the straight mineral-oil (standard grade) or full-synthetic. Ask yourself what you are after in the motor oil. If you are following the recommended drain intervals you gain nothing by using synthetics - you're pouring money, and good oil, down the drain at each change. The advantage to full-synthetic is in very cold flow characteristics (read: -20F - type environments) and extended drain intervals. Full-synthetic oils will last well past 15K miles without breaking down although you MUST change your oil filter at the recommended intervals since they will clog and then bypass. Synthetic blends are not regulated; how much synthetic is in the blend? 50%? 20%? 5%? The standard mineral-based oils will do just fine under the recommended drain intervals.

I can guarantee that you wouldn't know the difference in your car whether you put in synthetic or plain stuff. It's just our tiny minds that THINK the car runs smoother, and gets better gas mileage. For winter driving, I like synthetics, no question. Worth the price? There's an old adage about something being born every second.....

I keep synthetic in my oil for at least 8k miles, and depending on kind of synthetic I've had it up to 14k miles. It saves time, money and resources.

Actually, dino oil has been creeping up in price - so if you shop around for the synthetics ( that is, go to Walmart), you won't pay that much more.

I have been using Mobil 1 since its inception around 1975 with no complaints whatsoever. As a matter of interest, it was first marketed in France with the advertising claim that it got you 5% better mileage. Mobil chose France because they required proof of such advertising claims. Since they proved it, or at least claimed they did, this was considered a good marketing ploy for the oil.

Yes, and it saves on Warranty Claims. I assume you are out of Warranty, but it is a strict 3000 Miles between changes for me. :banana: :trophy:

Warranty is gone. Even when I had warranty it was changed 5-6k at the dealer. Last one from them was 48k miles I think. 8k does not hurt the engine, I've ran oil analysis to prove.

When your warranty runs out how often will you change your oil and what oil will you use?

I don't know how to answer that? I seem to have a rare good Dealership. It is 60 Miles away. I am the original owner, so I would like to

keep the Powertrain Warranty until 2016. However I might not live til' 2012. Worst regret, that I didn't get the Hyundai HPP! :trophy:
