Can anyone please help identify this engine?
Yeah, it's a Mitsubishi 4D56, 2.5 Diesel. Probably fitted to a Hyundai Galloper, aka Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero/Montero

If I helped you fix it, why not...

Your support is greatly appreciated

I'm curious, is there a particular reason you need to know? I assume you are searching for something in particular?

It's diesel, that's the first clue

Thanks Autospark, if correct, how do I explain the KIA and Hyundai markings on the valve cover?
Thanks Gerard 2 - yes I need to identify the engine to get several

parts. I especially need a clutch release bearing. The vehicle is overseas.

Because the clutch bolts to the engine and since the engine was taken out of another (unknown) vehicle, my best hope for getting the right part is by identifying the engine

Keep in mind a lot of Hyundai/Kia product used Mitsubishi engineered powertrains so it will be same in appearance but manufactured in Korea under licence I guess so that would be why. I was about to head down the Mitsubishi path myself but Sparky's experienceis likely why he's immediately recognised it and suggested 4D56. The 4D56 is in fact mentioned in the Hyundai service manuals for a lot of models fitted with the D4CB a Hyundai 2.5L Diesel variant as it appears they fitted either at some point.
If you clean up that bearing could there be some part numbers on it?

I'm still struggling to help you though, I could do better if you know what vehicle we're dealing with or what parts exactly. Knowing the transmission type would also be helpful. Or the model year

If you can get identifying part numbers off the clutch I may be able to revers search that way vehicle type or post images of what you see, if it's OEM parts.

Thanks for all of the information and photos. The engine was transplanted into a Montero, but from what vehicle is unknown other than supposedly a Hyundai. Since the vehicle is overseas, I have no access to it. I only have the photos I shared.

If you can get the VIN of that vehicle we'll know everything about it parts wise including what it was in.

Thanks Gerard 2, the donor vehicle is unknown so no VIN there will be available. However the following was found on the block just above the exhaust manifold 7B130458B2. 266
Does this have any meaning for you?
Thanks!
