So after a lengthy discussion with Crutchfield, the steering wheel controls cannot be retained on this vehicle, nor would the ability to have the stereo on, after you turn off the car, and turn off once you open the door. Aux and USB may not work with another stereo install.

I'm pretty upset, as while you can potentially upgrade, you lose features which would make this feel like than a nice transition in my opinion. You guys may all feel different but it'll feel cheap if I can't use the controls I have.
Curious, that. Especially considering the Metra 70-7306 wiring harness, Axxess AX-CAM6V step-down converter, and Axxess ASWC-1 are all rated as being compatible with our Accent on Metra's end; checked both online and over the phone. As well, even if the ASWC-1 didn't work, the standard fallback (and sometimes first choice for some) is the PAC SWI line of steering wheel control adapters. I find it very hard to believe that either current or future products can't adapt to our simple little car and its straight-forward, cross-platform wiring and bus system. I'll have a talk with Crutchfield as well - they don't have much room to talk at the moment since they don't even have the means to properly install either a single or double DIN headunit at the moment, since they currently have no compatible products in stock.

On that note, the Metra dash kit I ordered was in fact NOT in stock at Quality Mobile Video. They sent me an email after my order stating they made a mistake and it wouldn't ship out until 05/31. They never followed up, and it hasn't been marked as shipped yet either. I'll have to give them a call too.

This probably addresses your PM, FTR. Let me touch base with some peeps and see what I find out, and if you've got anymore deets you can share from that Crutchfield call, let me know if you'd be willing either here or via PM. :)

Hey Mobile Sonata, you're totally right, yeah, I contacted Metra directly and this was their response - so seems good!

Also - Mobile Sonata, I PMed you directly since you seem to have a lot of knowledge and might be able to help me compile an exact list of items I need so I can just check them off as I purchase.

Thank you!

Jeffrey,

Thank you for contacting Metra tech support. Yes, the ASWC-1 will work with your vehicle. After wiring the ASWC-1 to your vehicle the interface will auto detect.

Also - This comes with the Antennae, should I get it?

Huh! Hadn't thought to check eBay. Curious if they actually have it in stock since literally nowhere else seems to still, and Metra confirms they shipped out the product to distributors back in May. In any case, the price is right IF you're not buying a package deal elsewhere. I'll send you a PM about it all when I get some time (I'll set a reminder, cause my dumb butt will forget otherwise)

Thanks MobileSonata! How would the USB and AUX function work with a new stereo, could that be retained as well? I'm awfully curious...

Just sent you a PM, but for others, here's what I mentioned about that:

If I were a betting man, I'd say more than likely the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR and the iDatalink HRN-RR-HK1 are compatible since they were with the current gen Elantra and Sonata, including the base models without telematics. That said, Crutchfield doesn't confirm this, and I have neither checked the company's website nor got in touch with them, so take this with a boulder of salt.

Alright, dash kit finally came in! And I currently have no money to buy a new headunit. :p That said, weather permitting, I may take time at some point to fiddle around with the stock headunit and the new trim piece and get some photos / a video of the process.

I'm gonna start updating this thread based on what I discover with different car audio distributors.

CRUTCHFIELD UPDATE:

As of 06/14/2019, Crutchfield now lists double-DIN units as compatible with the 2018+ Accent. They do not yet list any installation parts compatible with said units, and thus don't yet have any discounted bundles ready, but they do list double-DIN units as fitting, and appear to be in the process of updating the site with new parts. Will post an update when I see a change, if someone else doesn't beat me to the punch.

I'm only 29 and already can't hear most high frequencies. I think that's why I'm mostly content with the four-speaker setup. I still intend to install components or separate tweeters at some point though.

CRUTCHFIELD UPDATE:

As of 06/21/2019, Crutchfield now has both single-DIN and double-DIN dash kits from Metra for the 2018+ Hyundai Accent, and has bundles ready for headunits! There are still a number of parts missing from the bundles, such as a steering wheel control adapter, accessory power retainer, Aux / USB adapter, etc. But the current top-level bundle will retain the backup camera, you'll just need to purchase the other necessary parts on your own until Crutchfield has determined which will retain the other features.

That's awesome, can you tell them to make the bundle include the other elements? You seem like you're smarter than half the people who work there, lol.

I am currently without full-time employment and driving rideshare 12+ hrs a day, that's where I am. ?

Needless to say, it'll be some time before I can ever get around to tackling this due to finances. Someone else will likely get to it before I ever can.

If I ever get around to doing something, this’ll be the first place I post an announcement. No chance of that happening in any remote future with my employment / financial situation

Hey Mobile Sonata! I am doing THIS! I have a Boss BVCP9685A head unit coming which has Carplay/Android Auto, along with all the goodies. My only issue right now is the mic. This model has a wired mic and I want to be hidden, I don't want to see that **** thing. Hopefully the guy I have installing this can get creative. I'm also hoping he can use the available USB for the carplay in the lower area next to aux, even retain aux if possible, and second USB for flash drive can sit in the glove, since I hardly remove it. I want this to look as OEM as possible.

Let me know if you have any advice or tips, or anything I should be aware of.

I'll post pics once I get it done, probs 1-2 weeks away to save up some more.

Unfortunately,t his project did not work as anticipated. Installer had countless issues - easy harness from metra didn't work/was not compatible. OEM camera was not compatabile, could not retain basically anything OEM. I've stopped the project down and am trying to revert everything back to factory. This is disconcerting and I've wasted some money on it. But as of now, I advise you to NOT try to do this.

So I had the installer put everything back, it's an absolute mess. I think the bypass is left in because the stereo just starts up with no warning sign now. Is that how yours or anyone's starts up? I don't see the Hyundai sign anymore on the screen SE - 4.3 inch screen.

Luckily he got it back but it was a hack job (we had to use a hot glue gun because of the wire job in the back, I mean it's not his fault he didn't think he'd have to reverse it), and I'm concerned for the future if it will hold up. He was halfway through the install - as i said above could not get OEM camera working with step down converter, could not get steering wheel controls to work - it seems like 18+ is too proprietary for this kind of installation without having some guides.

I lost quite a bit of money on this for the install, luckily I can and am returning like 90% of the items I bought.

It was a learning experience, so take it from me, it's not worth it. I was really upset for the last two days over this, so take my advice and avoid it.
