Car is a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with ~51,300 miles.

I was driving home when the malfunction indicator light came on.

Malfunction Indicator Light

This light illuminates when there is a malfunction of an exhaust gas related component, and the system is not functioning properly so that the exhaust gas regulation values are not satisfied. This light will also illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, and will go out in a few seconds. If it illuminates while driving, or does not illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, take your car to your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer and have the system checked.
I tightened the gas cap, and the light was still on.

Does anyone know what's causing this? The car seems to be running fine. Thanks.

I'll have to go AutoZone or a mechanic then to get the codes. I can probably go Tuesday.

I was reading online and someone said this: QUOTE
The other problem was if you "topped off" the tank. This can cause a small amount of gas overflow which will trigger the check engine light. This situation will clear itself in a few weeks.
I "topped off" the gas tank on Thursday and did not drive the car until today. Could that be the problem?
