Very late response on my part but thanks for the comments! I'd completely forgotten about posting here. Yes, I removed the dust caps and actually took photos of the halogens in place and easily read off the fitments. And I figured out what's with my old Optima- no this isn't a Kia forum but still- apparently there was a mid-year change and my '04 Optima uses the '05 headlamps. So nice when companies do that, although sometimes it creates a rare vehicle- I once had a 1973 Ford Maverick that was an early production- unlike most '73 models, I had the famous 'shelf' in lieu of glovebox and completely different A/C vent designs- basically the 1972 dash. It made me feel 'special'

But not so much when you're cussing the box of wrong headlamps you bought off Amazon...
I've still yet to upgrade- it's not my daily driver, it's my wife's, and she's not the one getting cataracts... I've recently been made aware of possible RFI interference, and I don't know where they hide the daggone antenna on these things (is it the fin on the roof? is that for terrestrial broadcast as well as Sirius/XM? if it's in the windshield is sure is hidden well) but it's sure not a whip antenna and where we live the Elantra can be a bit more 'receptionally challenged' than everything else I own- that all have old fashioned antennae- extra source of RFI might make a difference with already sub-par reception. Anyone have complaints about post-LED headlamp upgrade? Also I'm not too keen on anything that will not fit under the dust cap. Compact and fanless H7s (what the Kia takes) seem to have more variety than H1s and H11Bs. And other than the two Korean products, nothing else I drive has dust caps so I could get as bulky as I wanted. But if it has dust caps, I figure they're there for a reason.
