I am sorry that you are having this challenge.
Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is to get the code checked. That will give better indication.
It sounds like a lifter as you say.
It may also be a frayed/fraying timing belt. You don't mention if this has been changed.
Regardless of what it may be, getting the code checked would seem to be a priority, particularly as whatever is giving you the issue has thrown a warning light.
I'm not sure a busted rocker or dodgy timing belt would do that....
