Lock Up Torque Convertor

I was curious if we can disable the lock up torque convertor on auto transmission by cutting a wire or unplug a connector on the transmission, I use to have a GM and on those cars you could disconnect a plug on the transmission and the lock up wouldn`t come on and the car had more power on the freeway for passing and quick accelaration without having to use the kick down all the time.
