I'm a 2011 Ltd with a 3GS iPhone that until yesterday was performing fine. The iPhone usually Syncs the BlueTooth Feature automatically but did not yesterday - manually activated. When touching the Phonebook Tab on the Nav screen it converted to "Updating Phonebook Entries" (something like that / I may have added a Contact or two in the iPhone to cause that)) and Has Never Finished (15 or 20 minutes).
I have about 165 Contact names that would have been Downloaded originally from the iPhone.

Am I impatient or might the Update be Stuck?
If Stuck, do you Delete my iPhone association and Start Over with pairing?
Would Updating be Cumulative (ie) it gets 60% complete and then you exit the car; Then it starts at 60% when you return vs Starting Over from Scratch?
Is this Forum our Only Help Source or does Hyundai have an Assist Phone # ?

Any thoughts appreciated!!

Thanks Very Much, John. Really helpful information I will Save and no doubt use in the future.
Got back in the car this a.m. and the Phonebook was There! Go figure. I'm ready if it keeps freezing per your Help.

I just registered at MyHyundai.com but in Registering at HMAService.com Do You / Anyone Know what (choose one) Sonata EF, NF, Y2, Y3, Or YF mean for registering Criteria? Not seen on any car sticker.

Kton, I feel your Apple pain; You cannot be from Earth IF you understand Apple software!

Thanks again!

Two FYI's for all: $77 + ($11 annual Music Royalty Fee) for (1-Yr) XM still exists IF You Ask;
My Tire Inflator Plug Does Not Fit the Sonata Accessory jack BUT a 2-Jack Adaptor Plug did; Be sure you try all items you think you may need for emergencies to Insure the + / - thingy's on the side of the plug are low enough to touch the correct parts of the Accessory jacks in the car to get Power.

John, that's embarrassing that I didn't consider Googling for that. Answer noted and my horizons expanded - thanks again to you!

iPhone back to auto-connect'ing to Bluetooth, Contacts there, & all is well.

Bought a Radio Shack 2-Headed Accessory Plug per problem described;
All should be aware that the Accessory Plugs are dead without motor On or At Least one press of Start button - Wish it were "Live" .......
Another FYI to file away..

My Problem with an iPhone Phonebook change Locking-up the Contacts List on my NAV screen and showing "Updating Phonebook Contacts" for 3-4 days has returned. Here's what I will show the Svc Dept as Hyundai 800 Sppt referred me back to them - the Svc Writer had no immediate clue what to do, initially, and I volunteered to call the 800 group first.. While I seem to be the only owner on the planet with this problem, I'll post the results in case someone else experiences this issue.

My Cell Phone is an Apple iPhone Model 3GS, the 3G is on the OK list, and I presume the 3GS is as it works all of the time Except for this issue.
AT&T = Cellular Provider.

Background: My Bluetooth Does “Connect” to the iPhone when first starting the car BUT NOT ALWAYS.
I sometimes have to Manually “Connect”.

When I Modify the iPhone Phone Directory, start the car, and ultimately Press “Contacts” in the Phone Mode, I will see “Updating Phonebook Contacts” for up to 3-4 days. The List then re-appears and works OK until I have an iPhone Phonebook change (add-delete-edit).

After 2 (recent) days of seeing “Updating Phonebook Contacts” that night the Contacts List DID Appear on my map Screen, I had an Un-Answered phone call attempt, & when returning to the Contacts List I had the “Updating ......” indication AGAIN. The Contacts Re-appeared the next day. The List disappeared today after I made 4 phonebook additions. I have driven hours at a time on a trip with no Update Completed indication.

I have Deleted the iPhone from the car registry, Re-Paired with immediate Contacts List Displayed on the Car Screen, and then had the Problem Re-Appear later after an iPhone phonebook change.

The Problem has occurred with iPhone Software Ver 4.0.2 and the latest Ver 4.1.

Thanks, Ric. Doesn't it tick you off when you rush to your car to try-out a fix and the thing is working again? 3-4 days down to overnight is at least an improvement.

Recognizing that an iPhone and Droid operate differently, how did you discover the Phone's "Permission" was required?
A pop-up on the Main Window OR did you explore within the Droid "Phone" software module?

Maybe I can interpolate their logic into my iPhone the next time this lock-up occurs.
iPhone Sppt did Not point out that such a step exists, but sometimes which Rep you get determines the knowledge available.

Edit 2: Rather than Bump this back up I'm editing to report that since the iPhone Software Upgrade to 4.1 has had time to settle in, an "Add (1) Contact" to iPhone Updated Rapidly in the car. It appears all is well now with this issue. I note that Adding a Contact caused an Update where Editing an existing number did not.

EDIT: I changed one 800# in an iPhone Contact, went to the car this a.m. and the Contacts List DID appear without issue. The 800# change had not occurred so does anyone know how much a Smartphone database change needs to occur before the Car's Phone System attempts to Update the Car's Contacts List?
