I bought a 2013 Tuscon LTD FWD in Garnet Red on 8/21. I just looked at the tag on the door pillar. The car was built in Nov of 2012. Had I known that, I certainly would have looked for one built much later. I had a feeling when I looked at the engine that this vehicle had been outside for a time. The alternator housing looks weather worn as opposed to new. 100% my fault, but so far, knock on wood, she runs beautifully. I really enjoy driving it. Still, I'm mad ay myself for not being more diligent. The car had 3 or 5 miles on it when I first drove it. Makes me wonder if people passed on it due to the orange peel look of the paint on the sides. Dealer already said, they'll make it right, no matter what it takes. That makes me feel better, a little. Even after all this, I still love the vehicle, and the orange peel paint is common on many brands. Mine is not really all that bad, but if they can make it better for me, I'll take it. Rant over, and a reminder, look at the build date on your new vehicle purchases.

Agree it is a long elapsed time from build date to your buying it...
I doubt the 'orange peel' you describe in the paint was an effect of its sitting, however.

I would be cautious about the batt, as sitting that long is detrimental, and I would bet the dlr gave it a hot shot charge to fire it up and sell it to you.

A car, outside in situ for that time is not the ideal 'storage' condition.
Hope you got a great deal...

I've worked at a dealership before where there were some "old" cars. The only issue with some of them was the battery. I don't know about your dealership, but we were good about replacing the battery after the 3rd time it went dead in a week from doing nothing. We also started every car every saturday morning.

Build date I think is really more important for specific recalls. Otherwise, you shouldn't worry too much.

I think I did get a great deal...Window was 26885, I paid 23,300 plus tax. So far, no battery issues at all. I'll watch for that. Thanks for the heads up. As for the orange peel, the Tuscon is at the dealer right now. they are having their paint "specialist" check it out to determine if the orange peel is in the clear coat or the paint. If in the clear coat and shallow, they will probably lightly wet sand and then put a few coats of wax on and buff it out. They may even be able to buff it out without wet sanding. If it's in the paint itself, then we'll talk about a new Garnet Red Tuscon LTD to replace it. That's me, not them saying that. I have a great and very tough lawyer, who just so happens to be my best friend and one of Chicago's most powerful legal eagles. He's a mean guy when you're on the wrong side. LOL I think my dealer will make things right, they're a topnotch shop.

They sold me a 2013 SFS 2.0T AWD loaded that windowed @ 36200 for 30,900.

Took the Tuscon to dealer for some after market stuff. Asked service writer about battery issue. Warranty doesn't start til the day i bought the car. If any issues at all, replaced under warranty, no questions asked. RE: the orange peel issue, no go. They had me look at 5 other Tuscon LTD's on the lot, all new. Every one had very similar paint orange peel. They offered to switch out mine for another on the lot, same color, but same paint finiash. All in all, it's not that bad, so I'll be okay with it. Got it pin striped yesterday, and the clear bra, fenders, partial hood, door edge guards, mirrors, and rear bumper applique went on today. Picking it up tomorrow. The 3M clear film is so awesome. 5 year warranty too. Whole package was 600 all in, including tax. I love both my 2013 SFS 2.0T and my Tuscon LTD. Two great vehicles for crazy good value as compared to everything else i shopped for.
