My hyundai accent 2012 has 81430 miles on it. The check engine light is on and sometimes blinks at me. There is a clicking noise or rattling noise in the engine. When my boyfriend and I checked it, it was low on oil, so we filled it up. The check engine light is still on and it is still rattling. What could this problem be? My boyfriend suspects rod knock but we are unsure.

A flashing check engine light is serious. That's the only thing anyone can really tell you from the information you have provided. To find out what is wrong ( in a basic sense at least) you need to have the engine computer problem code read. Any auto parts store or mechanic can read the code for you. But since the check engine light is sometimes blinking, you should probably go straight to a mechanic. (It's like a blinking low fuel warning on the gas gauge, a flashing sign means you should attend to this issue immediately. ) I would go to either a Hyundai dealership or an independent shop that specializes in imports like Hyundai. Good luck.

Definetly agree that you should get this to the dealer ASAP. The symptoms you described sound very similar to what happened to my Accent at 160k miles. It threw a rod after running low on oil in between changes. Thankfully I had a 200k warranty through the dealer that took care of everything. Weird thing was that myself and the dealer could never determine where the oil went. Good luck.

Flashing check engine you don’t drive it anymore. Tow it to the dealer. If it ever flashes at you, you turn it off ASAP.

What he said, in spades. When it starts blinking, shut it off and call AAA

Your oil went one of two places. It either leaked (from a gasket or the like), or it went out the tail pipe after burning up. You dont always see or smell when your engine begins to "burn oil"
