The trunk on my wife's 2003 Sonata will not stay up - it slams down shut. Needless to say very dangerous, especially with little kids. The dealer said the prop rods are leaking oil and need to be replaced. Quote is $170.

Is it possible for me to replace these myself? Where could I buy a new set? And how do I remove the old ones and install the new ones?

Thanks.

You should be able to replace the supports yourself... go to Hyundai parts counter, order the parts, and install them at home.. likley save you $50-100 shop labor.

How do you get the old ones off? I took a quick look but it didn't seem too obvious to me how to do it.

if you look at the new ones you will see that they are fixed in position by a ball and cup device. you just need to prize the old ones off (use a pair of plires for example and griping the end of the strut just twist it off........the new ones just push on
