Can't take any credit for this - got the tip from the Australian Terrican owners' site
good info i struggled to get nylon tape around light unit.
Best I you can come from bottom of light unit but difficult to get around back.
I came from top and had to remove tape and relocate futher down past bulb holder and plastic pin.
The pin that causes the problem on mine is at the bottom about 30mm up.
Pin slightly rusty and fits in a nylon housing / insert.
Good pull and out it comes!
Clean pin and I used vaseline to lubricate nylon and pin.

Thanks for the info-it helped me get my indicators/sidelight units out without breaking anything, cheers. I found loosening the three easier accessible headlight bolts allowed the small grey plastic tang (the one with the screw in it) on the top of the indicator unit to clear the headlight a bit easier on removal.
