How Do I Know Which Model I Have?

4227 Views 23 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  omg grip
So I have a 2009 Accent Hatch with a moonroof, 5speed, and ... no markings on the back besides Hyundai Accent.

I keep hearing about the SE version having stiffer springs and in some models having the short throw shifter already installed but I'm really clueless. I looked through the manual hoping for some insight but found none. I'm sure it's something as simple as looking at the door sticker but I figure I might as well ask the community. Eventually I'll be doing exhaust, intake, springs, maaaaybe rear brake conversion, engine dampener, and the most trick entertainment system yet. i don't want to get ahead of myself though. what's my starting block?

Does it have fancy looking wheels or just black steel wheels? Does it have fog lights?
Those are the big most obvious things about the Sport model.

maaaaybe rear brake conversion
Save your money. These cars do not and will not ever go fast enough, nor will you be pushing the car hard enough, to get any noticeable benefit from a rear disc conversion. This applies even if you end up turboing or supercharging the car. The bald reality is that it's a FWD car and the majority of the braking is done with the front brakes anyway. You simply will see no immediate benefit from it beyond a visual one.
5 spoke wheels. They look really nice although I'll eventually change them. fog lights? hrmm, i never use them but i'll go check...*goes downstairs, outside, back in, upstairs*

yes, there are foglights. does that mean i have better springs? i hope i don't already have the short throw shifter. i feel like i'm rowing through the gears of a mack truck.
thanks for the reply Naky.

it would be mostly for show

i figure
strut bar
short throw
rear sway
engine dampener
cold air
cat back
and then get to work on a hopefully incredible carputer.

if you have 5 spoke wheels and fog lights, congrats... you have the Sport model. Stiffer suspension amongst other goodies.
If you have the Sport, you already have the short throw.

it has to be the standard shifter. please tell me i don't already own the short shifter.
How the h*** short do you want it to be? LOL... The shorter you go, the less leverage you have. That's the short shifter, I believe.. unless someone before you bought the car and took out the short shifter and put in a long shifter for no reason.
Sport/SE models come with it, or they're supposed to.
edit: thanks for all the help

It's always been my understanding that Canadian versions came with the standard shifter - I upgraded right when I got my car. US versions come standard with a SS - am I right?

Dave
The Sport is the American SE, minus ABS and extra airbags IIRC, whereas we have a DRL system. Basically a difference in safety equipment only. I used to own an '07 GL and got this '09 SE and the difference was noticeable in shifting between the two.
Wow a lot of bad answers when all you wanted was a good one...

Reference the VIN it tells you everything you need to know.

3 : Vehicle type
- H = Passenger
4 : Vehicle Line
- C = ACCENT
5 : Model & Series
- L = STANDARD (L)
- M = DELUXE (GL)
- N = SUPER DELUXE (GLS)
6 : Body type

Also since you lice in Ontario its about a 90% chance your trim level is reflected on your ownership.

Hope that helps

maybe he wanted to beat around the bush....
Idk... Canadian VINs are messed up...

I have a `09 GL and any vin reader including Hyundai's views my car as a `09 SE
