So, has anyone installed the hood insulation on an MD series Elantra? My question is what is the difference between the Uslan and the Alabama versions? One is part number 81125-3X000 (Korea) and the other is 81125-3Y000 (USA) with a significant price difference.

Even the hoods have different part numbers for the Korean and American built vehicles.

It seems hard to believe there would be any difference in this part.

Both listing show the part fits the same cars. They both reference the same hood in the also bought section at the bottom right. Don't forget to get the clips.
Look in the notes portion of the linked site. One is part number 81125-3X000 (Korea) and the other is 81125-3Y000 (USA) with a significant price difference. Look at items 1 and 7 in this link:

There are several pieces like that. There is a listing for Korean front fenders, but not USA. And there are different part numbers listed for Korean built wheel wells, and American built wheel wells. I find it hard to believe that there would be a difference, but with price and part numbers not being the same, I would have to presume that is the case.

It gets even stranger; two different hoods listed, one for Korean assembly, one for USA assembly, yet if I put in my VIN for my 2016 SE built in Alabama, it says both hoods fit my car. What the heck is going on???

I think I better check with my dealer. I would buy direct from them but their prices are not always best. But considering the online dealers don't even agree (some say either will fit, others say NEITHER will fit) I will see what they say. Weird.

Same deal with trunk lids, not sure why the parts are different but apparently they are.

I would be happy if the trunk lid just didn't hold water. Somebody goofed on that one. The 2017 and beyond resolved that issue in the redesign.

Can you elaborate?
If our 2016 Elantra SE is parked on level ground, and is rained on, there will always be a small puddle of water on the trunk just ahead of the lip at the rear and in the middle. I have seen several Elantra with water marks in this area so I presume it is common.
