So I traded in my 13 gls base. For a 13 limited turbo. Love the car, but never had a turbo. I swear my 2.4 was faster low end. Now don’t get me wrong after 3k rpms the 2.0 is no comparison. Just city driving is kinda lame ?. Does this sound normal???? The white car is my new one. I had SE rims on my gls. But it was base model....

Congrats on the car!

You should check your plugs and ewga voltage. The ewga is the exhaust wastegate actuator and it has to be between 3.9-4.1v when the car is cold to be in spec. If it's out of spec the turbo just won't work as well.

A few things to check/change

Run premium gas (91 or better)
Run 5w40 or 0w40 full synthetic oil
Check your spark plugs, replace if they are Denso with part number 18849-09085 (get them off ebay, not from the dealer)
Do an induction cleaning (I use CRC Intake Valve Cleaner)
Look into getting a catch can

Once you completed the list above then you'll be ready to mod...

Btw here's a link to the ewga adjustment, send me a pm if you need more info.

Just did plugs, wouldn’t I get a check engine light if ewg was bad?? Also can dealer check it ? I’m no good with electric stuff
Yes the dealer can check it but more than likely they will charge you for it. They could also lie to you and tell you it's in spec without checking it and charge you for it....

It's easy to check just get a sewing needle and a multimeter and check it.

Also I just did the oil I used 5w30 Quaker. 5w40 is pretty rare in ohio. Is 530 Sufficient or should I post it up to 5W 40
It's really hard to say. So in our car yes 5w30 should be fine for a 3K mile oci, for anything further it's recommended to go with 0/5W40. Fuel dilution for gdi engines is pretty high, around 5k miles that 5w30 has been diluted down to a 5w20 and doesn't protect your engine as well.

Walmart sells Pennzoil Platinum, Mobil 1, and Castrol Edge in the 0w40 weight. Just pick up one of those next time you do an oil change.

There's also a TSB out there that confirms this...

Do they only recommend 5W30 so that they can post better fuel economy numbers? Otherwise, it seems that 5W40 should be used with a hit on fuel economy I assume. Is there an added benefit of using 0W40 versus 5W40? If so, any drawbacks?

Walmart also carry’s the 5w40 in Mobil one, it’s usually near the DEF an trans oil. Pennzoil euro platinum 5w-40 is there as well but only in single quarts, it’s worth every penny and you’ll be thoroughly happy with how she runs after a change or two with the 40 total day an night IMO

I get Castrol Edge 5w-40 when it's on sale at Walmart.
Home Depot usually has good prices on 5w-40 as well.

Congrats on your new car, and, WELCOME to the boosted world.

WARNING!!! From here on, all your cars/vehicles will be boost...….ask me how I know, lol.

You'll quickly forget how your base sonata felt once you get used to the boosted one, you'll be learning your car all over again.

As far as mods are concerned, other guys here will be better equipped to advise you with performance mods.....car stereo upgrades and assistance, I can help.

Welcome again to the boosted realm,
SEB

P.S. - I was donotattempt on TurboSonata forum :).

Euro Platinum is great stuff, I can attest to that.

Just to chime in, I've used Platinum Euro 5w40 for a little over 4 years of ownership of my 2011 Sonata Turbo. Before that, the dealership was...well, I posted about it here. https://www.hyundai-forums.com/sonata-yf-turbo/326217-testament-using-proper-weight-oil-turbo.html

Not scientific by any means. My car's coming up on 140,000 miles, and - knock on wood - the engine has been absolutely perfect. Consistent, quiet performance for the past ~80,000 miles on the 5w40. Doesn't burn oil. Still get 33-36mpg on the highway with a light foot going 80. Not going to change a thing.

Yes Im done with base model cars! So I went ahead and dumped in some 5w40. My co worker is all about buying American. Makes fun of the car everyday. Been saying how his 07 jer wrangler would smoke my car because it’s got a v6. So we had to go on the turn pike yesterday for work. 530 am 3 lane road no one around. I let off at about 130 I couldn’t really see his headlights. About 1/4 behind me. ?. Then he does a rider fly by lol. I think the turbo works fine but I have an appointment tomorrow to eat waistgare checked. I have bumper to bumper I’m hoping that covers it. If not I’ll just leave

Hey Guys, I also am a owner of a new pre-owned. I'm just curious if it would be better, since the car will mostly be in FL for the duration of its life, if it would be beneficial for running 0w-40. Also should be noted this YF will be doing plenty of ridesharing for the foreseeable future. I'm coming up on 3000 miles and wanted to cycle out now and keep the good habits of my baby going.

Thanks for the input!

Yes running a Xw40 in your climate will be much better than running a Xw30. X represents the cold viscosity of the oil (at 0F). Florida isn't going to be in that temperature range so it really doesn't matter. You could run a 0w40 or a 15w40 and it really makes no difference because the operational viscosity is the same.

0w40 is a more premium oil since it operates in a wider temperature range so just get some Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0w40 from walmart and you should be fine.

Also sticking with good habits should include making sure your engine is ran up to temperature every time and doing the induction cleanings either at a shop or doing it yourself.

Premium fuel is also a must with this car, you will constantly knock if you don't use premium fuel. You will also get a small bump in horsepower over regular gas. There's a old post from a tuner that describes exactly why this motor is doomed if you don't use premium fuel.

Anyway welcome to the group and congrats on the car, if you have any other questions just let me know.

Let us know how is your car doing at the moment. The advantage of compressing the air is that it lets the engine stuff more air into a cylinder. More air means that more fuel can be stuffed in, too, so you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A turbo engine produces more power overall than the same engine without charging. Not only do turbos boost power, but they also increase efficiency. Because turbos use waste gases to generate power, the engine itself doesn't have to work harder. You need to use https://cararac.com/comparison/ when choosing your next car with a turbo engine if you have no experience.

I ran 0w40 M1 for years in my Gen Coupe 2L turbo. Just this year switched to a 5w30 M1 oil, just to see the difference. I'll be going back to the 0w40 when I use up the 5w30.
