So, the other day i was driving my 02 sonata 4 cyl.I was accelerating around 45 mph. When it felt like my gas stopped pumping.after coasting for a couple seconds it stalled.First i thought oh great my fuel pumps dead.I got a tow home and cheched the pressure in the pump and it was fine.So i moved from there to check my ignition, maybe my coils went out.I check and was recieving no spark. So i said its time for a tune up anyway.I went bought new plugs wires and coils. Low and behold still no spark. So i got some advice from a friend who said probably crank sensor.I pulled off the timing cover and the belt was missing many teeth. So after a painstaking weekend of removing all the stuff of a side of the engine with no F_N room to fit your hands i finaly got the the new belt and sensor put on. The timing marks on the cams were aligned toward each other and crank sprocket at TDC and other pulley aligned. I put the motor mount back on and left everything else off just to see it start first.I still am getting no spark.Any suggestions. And if by my mistake the teeth moved off by one without me realizing, would it start an just run rough or not at all? Im pretty decent with cars but im getting frustated after spending the time and money on the parts i could have maybe brought it somewhere to be done proffessionally and still had time for myself. Please help even a firing diagram would be usefull.
Thanx
newbie Tom

Yes i got the code for p0335 crank position sensor circiut a. I changed the cps timing side but not the cps misfire. Would that be circiut a or is the misfire sensor only to read if there was a misfire occourance? Does the cps -misfire have anything to do with getting spark to the coils? Im not getting a reading for cam position sensor so i am for now assumeing that it is good.

2hr job tops on a rack ..... :whistling:

So the timing belt was missing teeth, and you replaced belt and sensor... ok....

Did the balance belt break, did you replace balance belt while apart ?

no damage

Was the nose on the old CKP broken ??

Im not sure if we are talking about the same sensor,Mine was a flat magnet type sensor that had a plate that spun around with the crankshat,no insertion into any hole or gasket of any sorts.

Did you verify the rotor/blade was still in factory condition "as stamped",,, and the square edges was not bent curled that pass throuhg the CKP opening ? If it was bent or damaged in any way, you likely broke your new CKP...

Rotor/blade????

Also, did you properly tuck the CKP harness back into the groove behind the oil pump cog ?? ,,, if you did not, it will make friends with the edge of timing belt and cut it,,, resulting in the sensor wires shorting,,,,,, ASK ME HOW I KNOW THAT ONE..

yes all tucked nice and neat

If you can please get back to me about the ckp I hope i changed the right one.the guy in the store said that was it. maybe a pic or something

OK so i think i know one of my problems. sbr u were talking about a blade or rotor on the crank pulley.so i went out to take a look. the sensor looks like an h.i put the h faceing toward the outside of the car so the rotor went under the whole thing. But now i believe that i should have put the h backwards so the rotor spins in between the botom of the h.

Is this correct? The only thing is when i do that and crank the car ,it seem like im losing power where it should start. Please let me know what u think.
Thanx Tom

Hey sbr, Just wondering if you had a pic of the cams too.I thought they were supposed to align to each other but there are nubs at the top back of the valve cover that makes me suspect those could be the markings and not to to each other
Thanx

no shakes runs alot better than before. Now i just have to replace a leaky power steering pump(which its a walk in the park compared to timing belts) and it will have everything good till around another 1000 miles then an oil change.Thats the last time i start a project before getting all the facts. thanx again
