2004 Santa Fe, 3.5L V6 LX. Couldn't figure out for the life of me what the whining was while accelerating. Even in park if I pressed the gas pedal, the whine would get higher pitched the heavier I pressed the pedal.

The sound can also be heard very mildly at idle after a drive. So I really stuck my head under there, listened all around, and I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from the "HECU", I typed in the part number to google and found out what that gizmo was.

Am I crazy for thinking a whining sound is coming from that? And what could it be? Does it need to be replaced? My brakes work fine.

Looks like a spendy part.

could be your power steering or water pump goin out the window, or perhaps a leak in the power steering line somewhere and is low on fluid.. I just came from the dealership today to get a cooler power steering line replaced as it was starting to leak fluid. now the whine is gone. so it could be those listed above.. thats all I can offer for suggestions. good luck
