Headers And Powerchip

Hey all,

This past week I had a decent offer (randomly) on my vehicle and almost sold my accent. At the last minute I decided to keep it though (I was tempted to go ahead and then buy a wrx lol) we have been together since mile 2 so I suppose we should stick together.

Anyway just one comment and a question: first off the megan racing headers make a huge difference (just wanted to throw out another opinion.) I put them on a few months ago and took them off to sell... I could barely stand driving the car. They are a huge pain in the behind to install the first time, a lot more then I thought esp for someone without a lot of tools. However, I did finally dyno my car yesterday with everything. With my intake, exhaust, headers, coolant bypass

Now for the question, I know a while back some people on her explored the idea of going with powerchip... but there were problems apparently. I want to go with them since I have modded about everything out I can (without going turbo or NOS). Anyone had any more experience with them? I know they are confident they can do it now it seems, but that was how it seemed last time too.

I was sure that someone here sent their stuff to them and they sent it back because they couldn't do anything with it. Wasn't it you, bloodninja?
The Powerchip works with the 06-07. Apparently the 08+ is locked or whatnot.

PowerChip. As in the brand PowerChipGroup. And no, unfortunately it does not add fuel into your gas tank without your credit card's permission.

LOL.

Here 07.
I figured BloodNinja was the last to try, but they seem insistent they can do it so I'll prob go ahead and call em again.

Ran my car at the dyno this morning, 126 hp at 5.5k RPM. So between headers, my intake, the exhaust, and coolant bypass there was about a 16hp increase and its very noticable. Now I just need to find a way to tune it to hold me over... 16 hp makes a huge difference and I am sure with a new tune I could take better advantage of the set-up.

I know this is old, and i'm bringing it back but i feel like it's necessary..

You gained a lot more than 16hp bud.

Stock it makes say 110hp stock for easy math. You need to take 15% of that off and that'll be your wheel horsepower number. Which is about 94whp. You've gained A LOT for headers, intake, exhaust, and the mod. You've gone up about 32whp. Question. What kind of torque did it put down? Or better yet, can you post the dyno?

32hp for such mods is quite a lot. I bet most of the gains were from removing both cats.

My old focus would have never seen gains from simple use. With that car i made the mistake to add more horsepower than torque. Now i know better. All these things need is some torque! They can already go to nearly the top of 5th so there is no point in hp... 130 pound feet or torque to the wheels would make this car dangerous to any car. I'd think it would see high mid 15's with that!
Did you have to lift your engine out of the car to get the headers in?

I don't think you would need to. I'd prefer removing the front bumper and loosening the rad support instead. IIRC it's a tight fit but you don't need to move the engine.
hmmm interesting...

so a few questions:

1) will installing a header void the engine warranty?

2) how hard to install?

3) do i need to have welders etc to install headers?

4) how much gain am i looking at from stock with sri to sri, headers, exhaust? on average i mean. i figure i gained 5 from sri so i am at 115 now?? maybe get to 120 with exhasut and headers?

5) are the headers legal?? it keeps the cats right?

i would love to be able to get this installed, by me, then drive to a muffler shop to get an exhaust installed. is that possible? it looks like i would need the kfxperf header for like $250 plus the 50$ pipe for the 2nd o2 sensor. is that it?

trying to determine what the process would be.
See less See more
1: only the emission system's/exhaust warranty

2: probably fairly easy

3: no but some people have reported they had to enlarge the holes on the downpipe

4: no idea

5: nope it removes the first cat

6: what 50$ pipe? Yes the exhaust shop can fab an exhaust from the downpipe to the rear. They should also be able to weld a bung for the 2nd O2 sensor. Don't forget to buy some spark plug non-foulers for the front O2 sensor to prevent the CEL.

IMO the header + exhaust from KFX offers tremendous value. $600 for a front to back complete setup in stainless steel is sweet.

so it isn't legal? i have to have emissions tests every year where i live. what do others do?
You should pass emissions just fine as long as the cat is kept. If i were you id go out more towards the country and try and find a more "mom and pop" type places that does inspections. They may be more willing to over look some things. My tech checks brake pads, all lights, and wipers. After that your out the door.

Not legal. Others probably go back to stock to get the car tested.

No, it's not... wellllll, technically it's legal to have headers here in PA, BUT not if it removes any cats (which almost all headers do).

It's not kept, so no, it will not pass lol. Unless, as you said, you take it to a place that does "friendly" inspections, but keep in mind you're going to be paying much more than the usual inspection price to pass at a place that does it illegally. IIRC in Philly, to pass a car that really shouldn't be passed is ~$100, give or take... about twice what it is for normal inspection... and that's every year.

ok guys ive been planning the headers mod for a while yet im a little confused with some stuff and I need clarification
a: Most people have put the first 02 sensor in the given bung and have had no issues True/False?
b: Is the first 02 sensor if placed in the given bung need those foulers?
c: Has anyone used a oxygen sensor simulator for the second 02 sensor? Im planning to do so

Any help would be great thanks i need clarifications Thanks in advance
