the problem is occasional startup and no throttle response, smoke pouring out of exhaust, no power. turn it off for a few minutes and then all ok.
recently had it's MOT and all emissions within spec.
as it does short drives every day, I'm wondering if it has a sticky / gummed up EGR valve.
it's mechanical, so i have a few options:
remove and replace with a new one
remove, clean and put back
loosen bolts and fit a blanking plate and block the vacuum pipe.

anyone done similar? or other ideas causing the problem?

Im feeling brave and going to emote the egr valve to clean it, do I need to soak the bolts or will they come out easy?
Car now does short journeys and having just cleaned thick soot from the throttle body I have a feeling the egr will be the same
