Already had the t'stat replaced twice. When the car is stationary in the P gear, the coolant temperature gauge will slowly reach 40-45% of the scale and stays like that. Radiator fans do not kick in. As soon as the car is on the move with a reasonable speed, the gauge drops to the very bottom of the scale. See the photo, this is after 20 minutes of driving on the motorway. The cabin blower gives then at most warm air (not exceeding 30 deg C), which proves that the coolant's temperature is too low (so it is not a false reading of the temperature sensor, I think).


I am really out of options, any ideas what might be wrong?

can't be anything but thermostat - given it's not a gauge problem.


Take it out, put in cold water with a suitable thermometer next to it and heat it up. See at what temperature it opens.

For this particular situation,,and to test your thermostat,set the car on P , run the engine, keep feeling the upper coolant hose ,ie radiator supply, and the lower hose , ie the return hose, while the engine is getting hot ,the temperature of upper hose ,must be much hoter than the lower ,ie if both are getting hot at the same time, while temperature is raising ,then definitely the thermostat,is not working , because coolant pump is circulating the coolant, without thermostat control. May be it's not the right type.
