Fuses Keep Blowing In 12v Outlet And Cigerette Lighter

6542 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  sbr711
Just recently, my fuses both have blown for my 12v power outlet and my cigerette lighter. I use both frequently because I use them to charge my phone, to use my GPS, and for my IPOD. I've had this car for years and this problem just started happening. If I replace the fuses, as soon as I plug anything in, they automatically blow. I started taking off the panel... I'm thinking it may be a short. If it is or isn't... any suggestions?

Well, you have answered your own question...

I started taking off the panel...
Don't

I'm thinking it may be a short.
Yes, likely in the plug for the device or load you is plugging into the socket..

If it is or isn't... any suggestions?

HEHEHEHEEEE --- customer comes in and says the power outlet does not work,,, has phone plugged into the cigar lighter...

So I goes and plugs the cord into the outlet, the lamp on the cord not work... so seeing kid seats in back, and trashy interior, I have a look into the power outlet socket... OOOOOOOOOOOOOp's,, copper thing makes a real nice conductor for a short -- SEE PIC
