It seems there is some confusion about the trim levels for the first-gen Santa Fe, especially for those who have just bought their cars second-hand. So I thought I would clear this up for you. This is for USA-spec only. If a Canadian member has accurate trim level information available, PM me and I'll add it here.

5-speed manual transmission standard / 4-speed Automatic optional
Front-wheel drive only
Fog lights and rear wiper optional (Utility Package)
Two-toned cloth interior
Discontinued for 2005

GLS
2.7 liter V6 standard / 3.5 liter V6 optional (starting in 2003)
Automatic transmission standard
Fog lights and rear wiper standard
Single-tone cloth interior
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Monsoon Sound System (starting with 2003)
Sold throughout the 1st Gen production run

LX / Limited
2.7 liter V6 standard (2001-2002)
3.5 liter V6 standard (2003-2006)
Standard Anti-Lock Brakes with Traction Control
Chrome exterior door handles
Leather seating surfaces with heated front seats
Automatic climate control (2002 > only)
Renamed 'Limited' for MY 2006 only - Respective badge on lower left of tailgate

Okay, I'm still confused (nothing new there  ). My '01 Santa Fe AWD has all the stuff listed on the LX / Limited list except automatic climate control. Could that have been added after model year 2001?

First Generation Santa Fe's in the Australian market 2001 to 2004.

There were only 2 engines available and 2 equipment levels.

The 2.4 litre petrol was available with the 5 speed manual.
The 2.7 litre V6 petrol was only available with the 4 speed Sportmatic transmission.
All models were full time 4 wheel drive and had the following as standard, rear wiper, luggage screen, front and rear 12 volt DC outlets, overhead console with twin lights and sunglass holder.

The GL models (2.4 litre 4 cylinder and 2.7 litre V6) had cloth interiors, 4 speaker stereo, drivers side airbag and front disc brakes / rear drums and black door handles and mirrors.

The V6 GLS models had leather seats, leather steering wheel and gear knob, 6 speaker stereo, colour matched door handles and mirrors, front fog lamps and additional passenger side airbag, ABS rear disc brakes and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution).

Australian 1st Generation models do not have heated seats, sunroofs or diesel engines available.

This is to the best of my knowledge with reference to the 1/10/2003 Hyundai Santa Fe sales brochure.

Cheers Bruce

Thanks, Don. I fixed it to show 2002 and up only until I can find some positive information either way.

looking at this, it appears the fog lights and rear wiper were both part of the utility package.....not so on our 01 we just got from the in laws...i swear its the only one running around w/o fog lights that ive seen...but anyway we have the rear wiper and the window sticker does say it has the Utility Package....

My first post in here, but just acquired a 01 Santa Fe, & it has:

2.7 liter V6
Automatic transmission
Anti-Lock Brakes with Traction Control
Single-tone cloth interior
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Fog lights and rear wiper/washer

Seems like the trim level info is a bit hard to pin down on these vehicles...

Ok, let me chime in years later...
I have a 2005 Santa Fe with 2.7L V6, AWD, ABS, monotone cloth upholstery, leather wrapped steering, fog lights, rear wiper, sun roof, Monsoon six CD changer and Automatic climate control.
What trim level is this?

And I jump in some months after.. Is there a way to check the exact model from the VIN number or something? We just bought a 2001 Santa Fe and not sure of the exact model.

You should be able to call the dealership and give them the VIN. Personally I'm trying to find out exactly what mine is too. I guess I should call the dealership too, haha.

Leather seats
2.7L V6
All wheel drive
Chrome door handles
Manual A/C
Leather seats (Manual) with leather shifter and steering wheel
Automatic transmission
No ABS that I can tell
4 regular speakers with 2 tweeters
Front fog lamps

Thanks for info's:

I think ours is the LX model

2001 Santa Fe
2.7L V6 engine AWD
Leather Seats and front seat heaters
Leather steering wheel and shifter
Automatic Transmission
manual AC
I believe 6x speakers and 2x tweeters (2x fr. and 2x tw., 2x 2nd row and 2x in trunk)
Pioneers Headunit (it came with the purchase back in '05)
front fog lights
roof rack with crossbars (I don't know if that's standard)
full spare tire (standard?)
It does have ABS and traction-control (in snow and heavy rain)

Runs great, no issues (minor electrical things), less than 80k miles.

IIRC, the 3.5L engine was made available mid-year in 2003. My 2003 LX had the 2.7L engine, I remember the 3.5L wasn't available until shortly after I bought it. The way it is stated at the top of the thread may confuse some.

My quick drive-by guide to telling different trim levels:
Chrome handles == LX
No fog lights == GL
Anything else == probably GLS- but could be GL with fog lights added.

If you have the VIN, look up the info here (position 4-8):

Based on what I'm reading here, I'm pretty certain I have a 2004 LX. I saw in the manual that Heated Side Mirrors are available for the Santa Fe. Were those part of an option package? I dont see anything on the vehicle that indicates it has the Heated Side Mirrors.

Might seem a little off topic but I put a 2002 V6 2.7 engine in my 2003 V6 2.7 vehicle, (had to do to timing belt misalignment when replacing), anyway ever since swap TCS & ABS LIGHTS are on ( other issues too) but is it possible the 02 engine I put in my 03 didn't have the TCS & ABS option? If so is there a way to bypass or remove the system?

NewBie to this forum:
Is there a OBD2 port on a 2004 SantaFe? (2.7 V6 Auto)
It is my daughters and her check engine light just came on.
I have a OBD2 DTC Reader but don't where or if there is a port on this vehicle.

Any help would appreciated.
