Hey guys,

So I’ve had my 2018 Tucson Value for about a month now. I absolutely love it, but I noticed that the trip meter is all over the place. I’ll drive to work, which is about 12 miles from my home, park, turn off the car and the trip meter says I drove 68 miles.

While it’s a good laugh to look at, I’m curious if anyone has this same issue and knows how to fix it?

Thanks!

Have you looked at your owners manual? Was it at zero when you started? Are you looking at the same trip?

Sorry, I guess I worded that incorrectly. Do you know when you turn off your car, your car tells you how many miles you traveled? Mine legit triples the mileage every time. I drove to the store before that’s literally 4 blocks away. My car said my trip was 28 miles haha.

Is it just the trip that is wonky or the main indicator for miles travelled?

I would be actually quite concerned with what you are describing. Maybe your car is recording more miles than it's actually travelling.

I reckon you take some photos and start a timeline of both trip meters (A and B) as well as the main indicator and journeys taken. Then if there's a problem, you can take straight to stealership for them to resolve.

It’s just the trip that’s wonky. I was worried about that, but it’s tracking the actual miles I do correctly. If I drive 12 miles to work, it adds 12 miles to the car, but the trip meter is so much higher. I’m going to bring it in to get it checked out

Yeah...that's the thing to do. When I buy a new car I take it in for everything. You pay good money for it and the manufacturer may find a problem that needs to be addressed. If no one took them in they wouldn't know they have a problem.

Does Trip A and Trip B measure correctly?

What I found is that the "Drive summary" screen when you turn off the car tries to account for the WHOLE drive. That is, if you go to a place, sit there for an hour, then go back home, it will tell you the round trip (2x the distance). Or, if you stop at a gas station, you will likely see the mileage for the whole trip at the end, not just from the last engine off point.
The thing is, I don't really know what makes that summary reset. What I'd try if I were you is to leave the car 24 hours, and the next time I start it, reset both Trip A and Trip B, drive a known distance and stop to check the summary.

I have noticed if I drive it to work and lets say I go out for lunch that day 4 hours later it will not have "reset" and the mileage will include the total mileage for the day. But if I go to work and work a normal 8 hour day then it will only show the mileage for the trip home.

So, I think it has some sort of timer on it so it doesn't reset if you stop for gas/run into a store really quick.

Ours show the total mines driven for the day at each shut down, not just the one trip.
