Etacm Location 04 Santa Fe

Just got an 04 Santa Fe. Did not come with remote key fobs. Wife ordered 2. I'm trying to find the location of the ETACM so I can recode the unit to the new remotes myself.

Also some instructions say the key must be in the ON position when recoding, others say it doesn't have to be.

Keep in mind the set switch was eradicated sometime during the 2004 model run so yours may not have it. My Santa Fe is a May 24, '04 build and it does not have the switch, in which case it needs to be programmed by the dealer. If yours does have the set switch, it needs to be in the 'set' position in order to to program the remotes. Once you're done, move it to 'run'.

CarFax on this one shows 11/14/2003 "mfg & shipped to original dealer". Will check it out aftre wifey gets home with it. Any idea where it's located? Web searches have it behind a/c-heater controls, above brake pedal, behind fuse box... .

Check the manufacture plate on the driver's door jamb for the actual date of manufacture. The date shown on VIN checks is when the dealer ordered the car to be shipped from the port. But even with an '03 delivery to dealer date, I'd be willing to bet yours has the switch. Follow the DIY here and you should be fine.

Yup ETACS module had the Off/Set switch and both remotes work fine. Can't say the same for 05 Elantra wifey got an extra remote for, ETACS in that one doesn't have the switch.
