Catalytic converters can get blocked, it sounds like you need a new one.
Engine Trouble
hi i have 2001 accent and just swapped a lower milage engine in everthing went great till i put the exhaust back on now acceleration is so slow it took me 30 seconds to reach 70km/h and when i poped the hood the bottom of the cat was glowing red no check engine lite any sugestions ?blocked exhaust

well it is odd because it revs fine in neutral or park but not under load
Exhaust components aren't supposed to "glow" from normal use, I'd consider taking the cat off to try it that way.
The only other thing that comes to mind that would cause the exhaust to glow red would be an engine running with retarded timing, but here the pipe would get red first before the "downstream" components. In this configuration, the engine is very difficult to start and runs poorly even in neutral.
