I just swapped out the alternator and belts on my gf's 2002 elantra. The car ran great but now there is a rattleing noise that is either the alternator or the water pump.

I checked the belts and they are nice and tight but I have found that the alternator is "shaking" a little. When I push on the side of the alternator I can reduce the noise but not eliminate it.

The alternator is an "autozone" reman so it is very possible that the alternator is bad and is making the noise, but could there be other reasons? Could excess belt tension cause the water pump to rattle?

Could the lower alternator mount not be seated well in the slot and that is causing the vibration?

Any thought would be great as I have to get this fixed today before the rain starts.

Thanks!

it does sound like you have either not located the alternator properly ot that the lower bolts are not tight, if l were you l would re-trace my steps from the outset
