I recently replaced my tail light bulb ( passenger side, left side) on my Getz (1.1 litre, 2003). I noticed it was extremely bright - bright than my right (driver side tail light bulb). It turns out the problem is that the bulb's brake light filament stays lit.

how can I go about fixing this?

Sounds like you somehow managed to install the bulb the wrong way round, so the tail lamp terminal on the bulb holder is actually touching the brake light contact on the bulb.

Try taking the bulb out and rotate it through 180 degrees then refit it. And while you have it out make sure it has two solder pads on the bottom and it has two filaments inside.
