There may be a rubber plug on the backside of the shoe plate you can remove to get to the star wheel.

XD élantra had no access holes in back plate for getting at adjusters, kind of a crappy design. 2001-2006

First drum brakes I have ever seen with out it.

Have a new spring kit on hand because you may mangle a few wrestling off old drum.

Right. I could not find a port or a rubber plug on the drum backing plate. So I guess I will have to take in somewhere. What a crap design.

My Accent is like this. If you take it somewhere they will just manhandle it off of there.

Why are you taking it off?

before you do anything else release the adjuster on the handbrake cable, this may help to move the shoes away from the drum

Yes good suggestion might release some of tension.

I pull my drums off at least once a year now and they come off easily now.

A lip firms on the inside edge of drum where shoe doesn't ride ; needs to ground off smooth every few years or drums will be hard to remove.
