Hello,

I have a 2000 Elantra Automatic and I need to change the driver's side axle (half-shaft) due to a blown CV. Is it necessary to drain the transmission prior to the removal of the axle?

Thanks in advance...

You don't have to drain the trans, but if you don't the trans fluid will run out of the trans output flange. Easier to just drain it. I think there's a drain plug.

Jsinton,

Thankyou for the fast reply! This is the first Hyundai I have worked on...it appears to be a fairly well engineered vehicle with the exception of the window mechanics.

Thanks, again.

Put a pan under the drive unit where axle will exit the drive, and go on your way..

install new axle, and correct the oil level,,, Use Hyundai or Kia SP-III in auto trans,
