Has anybody done an oil change yet? What consumables are required?

Things like:

- Filter part numbers (Both OEM and aftermarket)
- Amount of oil needed
- Crush washers needed?
- Tips/tricks to getting the oil filter off

Haven't seen a thread like this and thought it would be nice to have a reference like this.

Anybody have anything to input?

Maybe our valued moderators could consider creating sub forums for say Maintenance, After market parts & installation, Gas consumption, Problems, and chit chat

Exactly, we need a forum for DIY or Tech chat, etc.

Weren't you blasting me when I would move these type of Threads that are asked over and over to the existing Sub Forums set up by Admin? In fact you hang out in the DIY forum all the time. How is that 99 Elantra? Considering a new 2011 Sonata? Great new Model

Haven't changed my oil yet, but I am in the process of putting together a DIY, complete with several OEM filter part number and a few synthetic oil favorites. I need to find out where the drain plug is and jack points to lift the car. If someone can help me by posting pics, that would be very helpful.

As far as oil amount, I believe it is 5.5 qt.
You do need a crush washer
Oil filter should be able to remove by hand...if not, use a filter wrench. The hole seems big enough that you do not need to remove the splash guard. I would just put some paper towel around in case some oil managed to drip inside the splash guard.

If anyone removed the splash guards prior to changing oil, can you post some pics on what bolts needs to be remove to take the splash guard off....just in case. :liebe011:
