Diagnose Codes For Santa Fe 2009

Good Day Guys,

Can you tell me if the 2009 Santa Fe is self diagnose for codes or i have to buy a special tool ?

On my other car there is a box near the accelerator pedal you turn the switch and you just have to count how many times the "check engine soon" flashes
and you get your codes. (it's a Nissan Altima 1998).

No such feature.. must have an OBD-II scanner. At dealer it is the GDS (Global Diagnostic System), which is a laptop with diagnostic programs and vehicle communication interface adapter to access all the various modules.
