My 2003 Accent (47,000 miles) is getting stuck in 2nd or 3rd. When it goes into the proper gear, it happens with a hard jarring 'thump'. I took it into the dealership and was told that I just need an O2 sensor. Is that really possible? I'm new to forums so feel free to email me, as well as reply.

that sounds more like a transmission problem, either at the unit itself or the computer/kickdown unit. If your 02 sensor is bad, it usually throws a check engine light first before anything else. How is the transmission fluid? Check to see if its the proper level and if it looks/smells burnt.

Did the MIL ever come on? Low ATF generally causes a slipping condition. A bad speed sensor or pulse generator could cause this issue.

Could also be a TCM problem.
