Hi all,

I've got a 2012 Santa Fe AWD automatic. I have a slowly worsening crunching noise coming from the front driver's side wheel well that I can't seem to diagnose.

It happens almost only while turning, and the noise goes away when it's raining outside (hopefully that's a clue.)

I should also mention that I had to replace the strut and mount on that wheel since the old one had leaked out. I was hoping that was also the cause of the noise but it appears not to be.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If it's specific to turning it could be the CV joints in the front axel shafts. But not sure why they would be quiet in the rain.

It must be caused by something exposed to the environment at that location. If the pads are noisy because they're badly worn, rain water would temporarily lubricate them.

Thanks everyone! New development: during a rain storm yesterday I DID hear the noise, so apparently that theory is out the window. Is there a way to check for a bad CV joint before replacing it?
