So, I have a 2001 Accent with a nice body and interior with a crappy engine and trans. However, I also have the engine and trans out of an 08 Accent. Does anyone think I could find a mechanic with the ability to put the 2 together? Is this even possible? Maybe just the engine?

Thanks

Essentially, you can make anything fit onto anything else. It all depends on how much effort and money you're willing to throw at the project. I would do some research to see what mechanical mounting differences there were between the 01 & 08. Since you're going between 2 generations, I'd expect to see some differences, but wouldn't expect anything insurmountable since under the facade & different accessories you've got a very similar basic structure. Aside from potentially fabricating or modifying a few things, the engine and transaxle should go in. I'd want to get the entire wiring harness and computer associated with the newer engine - this is where I'd expect to find things that I couldn't fabricate or modify.

Getting a mechanic to do this job for you would probably be more costly than getting a newer car in good shape, especially if there is any fabrication or modification that has to be done. If you have the tools and a place to work, it might be a good project to gain a lot of experience. To start the whole thing, you need a good manual for your current car and one for the car the engine came from - this will give you the major source for your research.
