07 SIII coupe petrol

When i start the car, parked and driving I hear a sort of continuous high pitch /whining, shrieking noise, it get louder when i drive past another car (on the drivers side) i assume cos of sound bouncing off other car.

Noise is from front drivers side near the wheel or from engine

Ive had brakes checked, recently.

drives ok etc... just the noise.

has anyone else had this issue, if so what was the cause

Can't really be from the wheel if the sound is still there when your parked.

Other than the brake check, have you had any other work done recently? What engine and gearbox is the car fitted with?

When did you start hearing the noise? Does pressing the clutch change the pitch of the noise? Does pitch change with the speed of the car or the speed of the engine?

It's obviously a mechanical issue so not my bag I'm afraid. I'm just gathering info for the more mechanically minded guys on the forum. Some of them hate to ask all these simple questions. I'm sure you'll get some good guesses about the source of the noise soon.

the noise stays the same while engine is running regardless of what speed ,

well obv when driving faster you get more background noise which means other noises are heard less
