Hi Guys,

Not sure if this tip is relevant as I wanted my radio on even tho I've turned off the engine. What I did, was to shift the gear into neutral instead of Park and then hit the stop/start button and u shld have power.

Well went to the dealer about my high pitch noise and no one could hear it, so I'm SOL there. But I told myself even if they couldn't fix the noise, ask about the outlet. Well guess what I forgot to do. I will have my friend take a look when he helps me install my new horns.

Still no answer on makeing one of the outlets hot all the time. thats what
I would like to know? any one figured a way to do this.
You have to get to the back of the outlet, and then find constant power somewhere (probably ignition harness), and run a fused constant wire to the switch wire at the back of the outlet. not hard at all, but you'd probably be better off taking it somewhere. best buy or somewhere shouldnt charge more than $50

Thanks. I could try this if I had push button start, but alas I don't. Also the reason I want constant power is for charging my phone while I am away from the car. As soon as the proximity key gets out of range they would shut off, correct? Not to mention it's in neutral.

They are wired to be hot in ign. You will have to rewire them to make it work. You will need to cut them from their current power source, and tap into a constant power. If you don't, you will back feed the system, as it is tied to some other items.

No car I can remember has ever had the 12V outlets (cigarette lighter included) 'hot' without ignition on. And the reason si quite simple: they're good for 15 AMPS, which can discharge a battery in a heartbeat. A similar analogy is if your car is governed to 155 mph, it has to have tires rated that high, even if they never see much above 80 mph. Manufacturers take the safest side possible.

Just omit the 'www' part and they show, although not as a link, but people can do a copy and paste, and add the www  .

You haven't looked at the right cars. Every car I have ever owned (a bunch) including the 07 Ram 1500 parked next to my Hyundai have the power receptacle and cigarette lighter wired ahead of the ignition key (always hot). The cigarette lighter turns itself off and the phone charger would take forever to drain the battery. The reason I am on this thread is to see how others rewired their cars

I never had a problem with my old car, charging the phone doesn't take much juice. I do see what you're saying though. I have a home charger, but sometimes the situation arises where I need to charge while I'm out. It is nice to be able to just go in somewhere for a couple hours and have a fully charged, or almost fully charged phone when I come out. It's no big deal, I guess I will just get in the habit of making sure it is charged when I leave the house.
You can get a lithium battery pack. Small like a deck of cards. Keep it charged in the Power outlet. It will charge your phone a few times even when the outlet goes off.

I don't think that you should do that though, it will just kill your battery and you'll be unable to start the car. It is a safety feature so that whatever is plugged in to the 12V outlet does not discharge your battery when the power is turned off. Why don't you just get a home charger and take the phone with you?
Nobody asked you if you thought it was a good idea. Answer the original question or kick rocks.

You will have to cut and rewire them bypassing the factory fuse. I ran a 14 ga wire 12v hot all the time fused at 15A. A convenient place to find the 12v hot all the time is in the engine fuse box. Should be two nuts that hold the factory cables to the fuse box.

I would like to have the 12 volt outlet (rated at 180 watts safely) powered ON full time; (But with the Hybrid system also on.) The reason is during power outages at home, I have successfully used a small inverter & extension cord run into my living room; to power a table lamp, my TV & DVR . It draws about 130 watts. So until power comes back,my 60 watt LED table lamp gives me plenty light and I can also watch movies that are stacked up in my DVR. It beats sitting with a flashlight & feeling helpless. But the system shuts down after 30 minutes and I have to go out the car, and start it up. With the hybrid system on as the battery depletes the engine comes back on for a few mainutes and charges all up again.
Any ideas out there on how to eliminate or extend the 30 minute Hybrid shutdown?

Does anyone know what the max safe wattage draw from the jumper post might be? Is it the same as the 12V power outlet?
(If its the same circuit, it would be an easier reach for the extension cord and the inverter.)
