i have the 2007 SLX 1.6 litre Australian model

its winter here, im using synthetic 5W/40, cars done only 13,000 kms and 3,000 since oil change.
the car does a lot of short 5 km trips to and from work daily.

when the car cranks over to start when cold it wont start after i finish cranking. ive tried leaving the
key a little longer but i hear the starter grinding which isnt good. sometimes after i take the key
off there is a delay of a second or two and it will fire up eventually

it seems to be in intermittent problem, only when cold and left standing overnight. in warmer weather
ive had no problems. its not all that cold really though i mornings maybe 3-8 degrees celcius

i'm not sure i've described myself well or if anyone maybe know what is causing this. spark plugs are original

thankyou

Why the flip are you using 5W40? The engine oil cap in the US at least states 5/10W20, and dealers often recommend 5/10W30. But 40? That seems awfully high... granted that number doesn't really relate to starting resistance (it's the first number that counts for starting resistance, I believe), so I dunno.
