Had stop lamp switch replaced in our 2010 Sonata, next morning check engine light came on. Could this have possibly been the cause? or just a coincidence? dealership said they didn't think it would be and are pushing my appointment back several days since it's "new".

Thanks in advance.

I would disconnect the battery or use a code reader to clear the code. Then see if it comes back.

better yet, get the code read on it and find out what it is instead of blindly erasing it. then make the decision to erase it or not.

code readers need not be an expensive tool, but a very useful one.

In most states you can borrow a code reader for free at the major auto parts stores like Advance, Auto Zone, O'Reilly.

Read the code and see what it is. Doing anything else is just guessing and probably wasting your time.

Code readers are now cheap enough they should be part of anyone tools. For $60 you can get a comprehensive one that also gives you a multitude of real time data readouts on your engine.

But, it is an electronic device. If it is an important code you will not be able to clear it. If if is a minor code it will return if there is a problem.

Working with electrical devices over the years in factory maintenance the first rule of thumb is cycle the power to the device.

What would be a waste of time is trying to track down a solution for a problem you cannot recreate or one that was a one time blup.

Lets recover the offending DTC so we know how to approach the proper repair to the offending circuit that module has deemed to be at fault....

Since you are asking this online, ask your friends and family if they own a code reader and get the code read. You would be surprised how many people own one. Just reach out to your social network if you have one and if you don't start with neighbors and friends.
