Hey, I did search but didn't see this topic on the forum. (Forgive me if it's well known).
I googled it and another site mentioned it seemed to be a growing problem.
I was driving my 2015 Sonata with 7,000 miles. The check engine light popped on and it acted like I was towing a boat. When I was at a stop, the RPM's were a bit high.
I was just able to sneak in the dealer 1/2 hour before the closed. They cave me a loaner for a day. Turns out it was a Cam Sensor plug that popped off. I guess they had to clean it and attach it with lock tight.
Others have said they've been with a rental/loaner for 1-2 weeks due to limited parts available. One was told that they have been doing 2-3 per week with the issue. Something about oil getting into a plug......?

We have seen 1 with CVVT code, and the housing was full of oil.. took a bit to get parts to re-assemble the cover assembly..

I am in a similar situation! I've been waiting for over a week now with a loaner loaded 2015 elantra until they finally get the part in to fix my sonata. It's crazy! My 2015 sonata only has 4000 miles on it and the check engine light popped up. They should be fixing mine soon once the part finally comes in (possible national back order). Apparently many others are having same issue. I saw a few post online on different forums and at carcomplaints.com under 2015 sonata. I'm guessing it will eventually be a recall. Other than this issue I absolutely love the car.

Interesting. I just had engine check light come on for the second time. I bought my car (2015 Sonata Limited with Ultimate Pkg. on 2/10/15 from an out of town dealer. The first time it came on, I took it to the local dealer (from whom I did NOT buy the car). They checked it, said it was nothing and cleared the code. Today, I took it back to the selling dealer. The work order shows: "found the intake camshaft position seal needs to be replaced. Seems to be leaking down into the sensor causing check engine light to come on. Ordered parts."

So it look like this may be a problem with 2015's. Am wondering now why the first dealer did not detect this. Could be that they are not as thorough if vehicle not purchased from them.

At any rate, looks like I will get the problem corrected even though I had to drive 35 miles to the selling dealer. If anyone else has this problem, it might be good to print out this thread in case you get any grief from the dealer. By the way, my Sonata only had 185 miles and the engine check light has come on twice.

So far, I love everything about this car. Extremely quiet compared to my 2011 Sonata. Seem like a larger car. All the new safety features are great. Hope I will have many pleasant miles once I get this engine light problem corrected.

Let me add myself to those experiencing this issue. Got the light on my Sonata Limited on the 16th and took it into the dealer. Only 1,000 miles! Still not repaired, and still apparently on a national backorder.

Additionally, the diagnosis was exactly the same as AWAHOO's, the gasket was leaking oil onto the sensor. Additionally, RPMs were extremely fast even at idle and while driving, and could not get almost any acceleration.

I have no idea when this will get fixed, but I hope it will be soon. I love the car, but this is starting to get ridiculous: 2 weeks so far. And to add insult to injury, all I got for a loaner was a crappy Nissan Altima without any special features: no satellite radio, cloth seats, crappy condition, no remote start, no backup camera, and no GPS!

AlaskaErik: To my knowledge, the sensor is the same on both engines. I think that the issue is due to oil leaking onto or into the sensor, and in this case I do not think it would matter what engine it was. I also think that there either might have been some sort of design and/or manufacturing defect in the part, and this may be the reason why it is backordered. It could be that they are redesigning or retooling the part.

It would be interesting to see what dates our cars were manufactured (Date is located on the door jamb). If the date range is wide, it is probably some sort of design defect, but if they are close, it must be a manufacturing defect. If I remember correctly, mine was made in July 2014.

Part came in after being on back order. Part was ordered on 2/25. It came in today and dealer called me immediately. The work order reads as follows: "installed 24352-2GGA1 :pLUG: Installed 24360-2GGA0 :COVER ASSY. VERIFIED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. SCANNED FOR CODES. FOUND DTC P001000 INTAKE ACTUATOR CIRCUIT. DIAGNOSTICS LEAD TO REMOVING THE INTAKE ACTUATOR. FOUND IT WAS OIL SOAKED. CORRECTION REPLACED ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY. CLEARED CODES AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS. ALL OK."

Hopes this solves the engine check light problem. Will let you know if it does not.

Is this problem specific to one engine type? I see one person has a Sport and another has a Limited. Kind of strange to see it occur in two engine types.
Same car, same engine, different decorations.. we had another 1 here earlier this week, first 1 we had, tech called FSE and was advised parts not available the time, and car sat close to 2 week I think

Hello everyone. My husband and I just purchased my 2015 Sonata Limited on Jan. 17th. Feb. 20th the check engine light came on, the car struggled when climbing the most slight incline yet wanted to speed off when sitting still. With only 1500 miles on the engine at the time I was already not happy. Dropped the car off at the dealer to be serviced the next day. Was told it there was a problem with something that allowed oil to leak and damage a sensor. I was told it would be about a week for the part to come in so I was provided a loaner. It has been two weeks today since I have seen my car and the only update I have received is that the part is on "national back order". The newest expected date for the part to arrive - March 23rd. My car will have sat an entire month by that time. Just made my first payment on a car that I am not driving. I am one sad lady. To add insult to injury - my loaner is a 2014 Chevy Captiva. Blech. I am definitely not a fan.

Anyone on this list driving a 2.0T? And when was your cars built. I have yet to get this problem thank goodness. Mine was purchased in December 2014 and the manufactured date is September 9 2014

Another thing to remember the reason its on back order is due to the strike at the docks in California that just now got up and running. Just hang in there your parts will come in soon enough.

We received part this week and tech installed cover with seal, and seal into end of cam.. Dont know when it was ordered, dont think car was here that long

Is there a definitive time frame that these cars were built? I bought mine on Sept 11 and it was built around the middle of August. I have 8600 miles on it with no problems so far. Since this is my long distance cruiser, any down time would be a huge convenience.

Well...

Finally a follow up on my original post below. On March 18, after 25 long days without my car, I finally received word that my car had been repaired. The cam sensor/seal repair was finally complete. My husband and I picked up the car that evening. Good riddance Chevy Captiva!!! The next day I drove to work no problem. Started the car up to head home from work and within about a minute the check engine light was on and the car was showing the very same symptoms described in my original post. Took the car back to service the following morning and was given a loaner yet again. After voicing my displeasure with service I moved into the salesroom and voiced it some more. They are taking my concerns "up the chain" so they say. That afternoon I was told my car was ready. The new seal had rolled allowing the oil to leak onto the sensor again. Picked the car up and have not had any issues since. Still pressing the issue with Hyundai regarding the amount of time without the car.
I have noticed that my BlueLink app has never recognized my check engine light coming on. Oh well, crossing my fingers (but not holding my breath) that my car stays healthy.

I recently got oil change this morning i noticed my engine light is ON,
I scanned it and it show error code : P0010 ( A Camshaft position Actuator circuit/ Open Bank 1 )
i have 70000 kms already on my car, would that be still under warranty ?

That may refer to VVT. Could be a bad oil control valve.

NOPE..... rubber plug in front of cam phazer blew out...

Get to where you can pop the black rubber plug off the cover, I bet it wet with oil and maybe oil run out the hole of the cover

New plug available (black),, if dealer try to give you a brown color one, you dont want that..

Remove CVVT cover with brush box and clean the oil out of cover.. start the plug into CVVT, install cover, and use Hyundai SST to set plug to correct depth in the CVVT..

Erase DTC, reset engine adaptive, and do the CVVT learn per Hyundai



Search 15-01-022-1 and see if you can find anything
