Just installed iOS 12 and updated the Google Maps aap for use with Carplay. Google Maps doesn't work with Siri so Maps has its own "on screen" microphone button. The issue I'm having is the mic will make the notification "beep" when I touch it but it doesn't appear to hear my voice. Anyone else run into this issue using Carplay/Google Maps with the 8" touchscreen?

Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if it's a Google problem or a Hyundai issue. I really prefer using Google Maps but see this as a big problem. Would be interested to hear if other Hyundai owners are experiencing the same.

Our other car has CarPlay and the microphone works so it looks like it could be a Hyundai problem. I checked the settings for the Google Maps app and the microphone is on. I did read about a shortcut (new Shortcuts app) that uses Siri so I’m going to see if it’s a practical workaround or not.

The problem is that the microphone button in Google Maps does not trigger the head unit to enable the actual microphone in the car. Whether that's an issue between Google Maps and iOS when used in CarPlay mode (justifiable by the fact it's at its first iteration) or a problem with the CarPlay server in the Hyundai Head Unit (which does not register GMaps' request to enable the mic), I can't really say (seeing as how I have Android and no AA/CP on my head unit)

There is hope. On a google thread it sounds like there was an update for Google Maps' beta testers that did fix the issue for this one person.

I'll try to add the link in my next post. I'm blocked from adding links until I have have 5 posts.

Yes, update Waze on your phone and it should appear on your Carplay screen. Haven't tested the mic yet.
I tried Google Maps and Waze on my Pioneer 4200Nex and they both work fine my MIC. I did have to hit "allow app to use MIC" on my phone when I opened waze, but that was it.

If you're still having issues, then it's definitely a Hyundai issue.
