Google Maps just updated their app today to work with Carplay in iOS 12.

Is the Google Maps in-app microphone working for anyone?

The in-app touchpad destination search works well. But the app isn't picking up anything from the car's microphone using the Google Maps voice(mic)-search option in my 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T.

Same exact thing for me. It works just fine in my friend's Honda Accord.

I have Hyundai software version ST.LF16.USA.E487.151226
2017 Sonata Limited

This is a real bummer. I've been looking forward to google maps for a long time. I despise the Apple Maps.

My biggest complaint about the CarPlay/google maps integration is that you can’t set your preferred navigation app. So when you use the voice button on your steering wheel to ask Siri to navigate to a particular place it routes it to Apple maps still. IMO the integration still needs work

I definitely have the microphone activated in the privacy and google maps settings. The microphone works when my iPhone isn’t connected to the car. It just can’t hear anything in CarPlay mode.

Krobson— what version of the hyundai software do you have? I want to know if it’s worth a trip to the dealer. Maybe the update even costs money.

My phone automatically updated, then I noticed there was another update released a few hours later. Make sure your google maps app is fully up to date. Also make sure you enable microphone use for it. It works for me

Google Maps

My microphone also isn't working with new IOS12 and Google maps. I am also trying to see if we can still update our own software. I noticed the download button is missing from the MyHyundai site. I have version ST.LF16.USA.E511.160620

Sorry for the delay. This is the firmware my 2018 is running.

In my 2018 Sonata, voice control works for Google maps under IOS12.

I did this by tapping the microphone icon on the screen. Hadn't tried the button on the steering wheel.

My car's software versions are:
LFFL.USA.SOP.V085.170809.STD_H
LFFL.USA.258.170511.MICOM.D_M

The car was built in April of 2018 and appears to have a version prior to krobson17's.

(The 170809 appears to be a date: YYMMDD: 2017-08-09.)

UPDATE: The onscreen mike button works while Google Maps is showing the map. The steering-wheel button takes me to Siri. I doubt Siri can pass detailed instructions to Google Maps, though this may be possible using Apple's new Shortcuts system.

I think we may be out of luck with 2017s. I called my dealer and they said there is no update available. I emailed mapnsoft.com support which is where you can purchase map updates. It sounds like they are experiencing the same problem with a car they have, but say the map update won't help.

Hello,

We do not recommend purchasing a map update for this issue, as it is likely not to correct the problem being encountered. We have the same vehicle that is a company car, and it suffers from this as well. Our research and development team is positive that the issue is coming from the app side on Googles end. Please wait for them to update their application further to see if it corrects the issue. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Oliver

I'm going to try to contact Hyundai corporate and see what they say. It would help if we could find another Carplay app that shows the same issue to prove it's not a Google software problem.

I just upgraded my 2015 to the latest 12.5 map/firmware released in August. I will test Google Maps in the morning on my drive to work. You cannot judge by anyone with a 2018, as the radio is one hardware revision newer.

Many other are report the issue, and it is happening across brands.
I have the issue with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland with Uconnect4c, and the latest firmware. Same with our '18 Chrysler Pacifica.

Others with the same vehicles/system report it working. I am not sure it's a firmware specific bug. Could be a combination of phone/app etc.

I did not fix my signature... I turned in my Genesis... and got the Jeep.

9/26 Google Maps Update doesn't fix mic issue

After today's Google Maps update (v5.1), the Sonata's mic is still inoperable during in-app searches.

Waze was also updated to v4.43.5.0 today and the in-app mic is still inoperable there, as well.

As a side note, you can apparently run Google Maps and Waze concurrently via CarPlay. So, you can use Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions and, if Waze is simply running without a destination, it will throw up onscreen Waze-notifications of nearby accidents, police, etc. on the road you are driving on.
